The warmer months are upon us, which means we’ll have to leave the chunky sweaters and fuzzy boots at home. Depending on where you live, it’s now time for the dresses, skirts, and sandals to make their way to the stage. Everyone’s closet is going to look different now depending on their personal preferences, and there’s a style of dressing that has gotten everyone’s attention: modest fashion.
To explain it simply, modest fashion, or modest dressing, is the way that women style themselves in clothes that reveal less skin and instead chose flowy and looser clothes to dress in. Women of every walk of life choose to dress modestly, whether it be because of culture, religion, or personal preferences. There is no fixed standard on who can dress modestly, and some people take up modest fashion because they find it satisfies their comfort. Whatever the case may be, modest dressing can be used in outfits in a number of ways, and it can be a way for people to express themselves. If you’re interested in how to become a modest dresser, or if you just like some clothing items from modest fashion, here are just a few modest clothing essentials to add to your closet! I’ll be showing examples of how you can style these simple clothing items in adorable Spring outfits with pictures as well!
Solid-colored Button-ups
Button-ups have always been our trusted friends throughout the years. Running late to school but don’t have an outfit planned? Grab a tank top, jeans, and your good old button-up shirt and you’ve got a cute and easy outfit. There are so many other ways to utilize the classic button-up in your routine, and one great way is to wear them over a dress. If you’ve got a dress with a cut-out back or you’re feeling too exposed from the front, layer a button-up on top of it! It’s lightweight, so it won’t add any extra warmth to your outfit, and you can tie it in a cute knot by not buttoning it up all the way.
Linen Pants
Linen is one of the best materials to wear in the warmer months, so you can even keep wearing linen pants when summer comes. It’s lightweight, breathable, and airy, so it’s very comfortable to wear when it’s hot out. Linen pants are loose, but it’s alright to pair them with a top that’s equally as loose. These pants are usually worn with looser t-shirts or tucked-in blouses, so it’s really up to you how you want to style them!
Slouchy Jeans
Much like the linen pants, slouchy jeans are looser, so they’ll allow your legs to breathe a bit more and they wouldn’t stick to your legs like skinny jeans. There are numerous pairings that can go with slouchy jeans from a simple half-tucked-in blouse or a lightweight cardigan. Another comfortable way of wearing slouchy jeans is to wear a casual blouse with the top few buttons undone and the ends tied in a knot. It’s easy and will become an instant favorite of yours to style!
Lightweight Blazers
If you’re looking for a dressier item, a blazer is definitely the way to go! A light blazer is a perfect way to make an outfit more formal, but it’s not as restricting as a formal suit jacket would be. A more professional way of styling a blazer would be to wear a blouse or a patterned button-up (make sure the pattern isn’t too busy) underneath it and tuck it into a pair of the aforementioned slouchy jeans. It makes for a stylish outfit and keeps you looking cute and comfortable! If you want to keep things casual for a coffee date with friends or significant others, replace the blouse with a tucked-in t-shirt and you’re good to go.
The beauty of modest fashion is that it’s a style of dressing that anyone can take part in. It’s just the same as layering clothes on in Autumn or Winter and the same pieces of clothing can be used over and over again in different ways. There are so many ways to express yourself through clothing, and this small list of clothing items is just here to start you off. Here’s to hoping that you’ll welcome Spring with a few new pieces of clothes to add to your collection!
